The whole number of Indians, within the limits of the United States both east and west of the Mississippi, is estimated in round numbers at 300,000, of whom 120,000 reside in the States and Territories. The following tables are abridged - from those contained in the work entitled Indian Treaties,” published by order of the Department of War in the

year 1826.
