they do not the fame in their own Name, but in Christ's, and do Minifter by his Commiffion and Authority, we may ufe their Miniftry, both in hearing the Word of God, and in receiving of the Sacraments; neither is the Effect of Chrift's Ordinance taken away by their Wickedness, nor the Grace of God's Gifts diminished from fuch, as by Faith rightly do receive the Sacraments miniftred unto them, which be effectual, because of Christ's Inftitution and Promife, although they be miniftred by evil Men. Nevertheless it appertaineth to the Difcipline of the Church, that Inquiry be made of evil Minifters, and that they be accused by thofe that have Knowledge of their Offences; and finally being found guilty, by juft Judgment be depofed.

ARTICLE XXVII.

De Baptifm.

APTISM is not only a Sign of Profeffion,

and Mark of Difference, whereby Christian Men are difcerned from others that be not chriftened; but it is also a 2 Sign of Regeneration, or New Birth; 3 whereby, as by an Inftrument, they that receive Baptism rightly, are grafted into the Church: The Promises of the Forgiveness of Sin, and of our Adoption to be Sons of God by the holy Ghost, are vifibly figned and fealed, Faith is confirmed, and Grace increased, by Virtue of Prayer unto God. The Baptifm of young Children is in any wife to be retained in the Church, as moft agreeable with the Inftitution of Chrift.

And he took them up in his Arms, put his Hands upon them, and bleffed them. As ii. 38, 39. Be baptized every one of you, &c. for the Promife is unto you and your Children, &c. I Cor. vii. 14. The unbelieving Hufband is fanctified by the Wife, and the unbelieving Wife is fanctified by the Hufband, elfe were your Children unclean, but now are they holy.

ARTICLE XXVIII.

Of the Lord's Supper.

I

HE Supper of the Lord is not only a Sign
of the Love that Chriftians ought to have
among themselves one to another; but rather it is
a ? Sacrament of our Redemption by Christ's Death,
infomuch that to fuch as rightly, worthily, and
with Faith, receive the fame, the Bread which we
and
likewife the Cup of Bleffing, is a 3 partaking of the
Blood of Chrift.-Tranfubftantiation (or the
Changes of the Substance of Bread and Wine) in
the Supper of the Lord, cannot be proved by holy
Writ, but is repugnant to the plain Words of
Scripture, overthroweth the Nature of a Sacra-
ment, and hath given Occafion to many Superfti-
tions. The Body of Chrift is given, taken, and
eaten, in the Supper only after an heavenly and
fpiritual Manner. And the Mean whereby the
Body of Chrift is received and eaten in the Supper,
is Faith. The Sacrament of the Lord's Supper
was not by Christ's Ordinance 7 referved, carried
about, lifted up, or, worshipped.

we should believe on the Name of his Son Jefus Chrift,
and love one another, as he gave us Commandment.
John iv. 11. Beloved, if GOD fo loved us, we ought also

are one Bread, and one Body, for we are all Partakers of
that one Bread.

And he took Bread, and gave Thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, faying, This is my Body, which is given for you; this do in Remembrance of me. Likewise alfo the Cup after Supper, faying, This Cup is the New Teftament in my Blood, which is fhed for you.

31 Cor. x. 16. The Cup of Bleffing which we blefs, is it not the Communion of the Blood of Chrift? The Bread which we break, is it not the Communion of the Body of Chrift?

4 I Cor. xi. 26. As often as ye eat this Bread, and drink this Cup, ye do fhew the Lord's Death till he come.

5 John vi. 47. Verily I fay unto you, he that believeth on me hath everlasting Life. Ver. 48. I am that Bread of Life. Ver. 49. Your Fathers did eat Manna in the Wilderness and are dead. Ver. 50. He that eateth my Flesh, and drinketh my Blood, dwelleth in me, and I 'in him. Ver. 57. As the living Father hath fent me, and I live by the Father, fo he that eateth me fhall live by me. Ver. 58. This is that Bread which came down from Heaven: Not as your Fathers did eat Manna, and are dead. He that eateth of this Bread, fhall live for ever. Ver. 59.
