NOTE.-The Accents, which are here placed over all the more emphatic Notes of the several Tones, are introduced for the purpose of assisting those who have to teach them to Choirs. But in the Music placed at the head of each Psalm and Canticle, it will be observed that there is only one Accent employed, (the one already explained in this Introduction); and this is adopted for a distinct purpose, viz., as an expedient in the system of pointing.

O COME, let us sing unto the

Lord: let us heartily rejoice in the strength of our sal-va-tion. Let us come before his presence with thanks- { giv-ing and shew ourselves glad in him with psalms.

For the Lord is a great & God: and a great { king a-bove all gods.

† It will be observed, that, whenever this sign is placed before a reference to the Book of Harmonies, at the head of any Psalm or Canticle, there is also a similar sign before one or more of the verses following; and it denotes that all such verses are to be sung to the Harmony thus indicated.

Forty years long was I grieved with this generation, and said: It is a people that do err in { their hearts, for they have not known my ways.

Unto whom I sware in my wrath: that they

should not {en-ter into my rest.

Glory be to the Father, and to the } Son: and to the Ho-ly Ghost;

As it was in the beginning, is now,* and ever { shall be world with- out end. A-men.
