SIXTH READER THE FLAG GOES BY HENRY HOLCOMB BENNETT The flag, the Stars and Stripes, is about to go by. The crowds line the sidewalks. Can you hear, "A blare of bugles, a ruffle of drums," and can you see down the street above the heads of the crowd something that sets your blood tingling, "A flash of color beneath the sky"? Take your hats off, for, "The flag is passing by!" Here it comes, carried by "our boys," their bayonets gleaming and glittering! How our hearts thrill, for, Yes, "Blue and crimson and white it shines, Over the steel-tipped, ordered lines!" (6 'Hats off! The colors before us fly!"
