The Rime of the Ancient Mariner and Other Poems (original 1992; edition 1992)by Samuel Taylor ColeridgeI would give "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" or "Kubla Kahn" five stars easily, but a lot of the poetry in the book beyond that didn't do much for me. Samuel Taylor Coleridge is a brilliant writer of the more supernaturally minded poems, and his verses of love are generally rather good. Personally, I'm a bit uncomfortable reading this, as I really haven't a lot of experience with anything beyond the epic poems. Taste in poetry is rather individualist, but here are my thoughts on this book. http://observe-and-see.blogspot.com/2010/02/book-review-samuel-taylor-coleridge.... A delightful and affordable edition of the masterpiece: This 75 page edition is an efficient and likeable publication. The book includes the famous Rime of the Ancient Mariner (with side notes) and Kubla Khan as well as 20 or so others. The layout and print font are easy to read and the absence of an introduction spares the reader from facing mumbled opinions of the elite university members who usually appear in these books. Affordable reading from Dover. Thoroughly recommended, especially for those who have never read Coleridge and don't want to spend large amounts of money on something they may not like. Once again, well done Dover Publications. |
